Unexpected Faves

Has any longtime viewers suddenly moved what you'd call an "okay" ep to at least a
minor fave? I have, and here are a few I really enjoy that I used to only think were okay.

The Seance

Yes, it's silly and corny, and REALLY plays like a piece of bad dinner theater, but for some
reason, I find the show enjoyable. "Mr. Merriweather" is a hoot...and so is Ricky's
raunchy lines about Lucy not liking the way he "vibrates" and his "Oh, boy, WILL I!" to
saying 'yes' to anything.

The Benefit

This is the earliest ep to me that really clicks all the way around. All the lines are funny,
Ethel and Fred shine, and that "Under the Bamboo" number with Ricky and Lucy is
hilariously entertaining.

Lucy is Matchmaker

PJ really got me to finally appreciate this late season two romp, which is quite sexy for its
time. Also love the youth of everyone here in their new apartment.

Lucy and Superman

I never watched Superman, not even the movies with Christopher Reeve. But in recent
years, I've recognized independently how funny this ep is. And, sadly, this is the last
appearance of "Carolyn Appleby." This would probably be my favorite "Little Ricky"
offering with Keith T.

Any others?

The Seance is kinda silly. It never was a favorite, but I did give it another try after gb mentioned how he liked it. It was a while ago, maybe on the old imdb board. Mr. Merriwether is a funny character. I have come to appreciate what I used to think was a"so-so" episode.

The Young Fans- is that the right title? It's the one with Richard Crenna. That's an episode gb really likes.
I hadn't appreciated how cute and funny he was in the episode. But I've grown to like it. I wish they had cast someone else in the role of Peggy though. It's not just that the actress looked too old for the part (and she was pregnant too, hence the big coat). But since she did the voice of Judy Jetson, that's all I can think of when she speaks. lol

One episode I will NEVER get to love or even like is the one with Pepito the Clown. Geez, clowns give me the creeps.

I never liked the one when Fred's old vaudeville partner comes to town, Barney Kurtz. I just have to turn off the musical number at the end. I just don't like it. But I have come to appreciate the earlier scenes, like Lucy pretending to be the Mertzes maid and kissing Ricky when he comes in.

I think a surprised Barney says, "Your maid sure is friendly!"

I don't really like "Mertz and Kurtz" either, yet I love those old songs. I think it's the guest actor that really annoys me.

Some more faves of recent years:

Ricky Loses His Voice

So cute the way the three REALLY take advantage and stage that show. Lord knows what his musicians thought!

Ricky Has Labor Pains

A hoot from beginning to end. I love the way Lucy impersonates a man so well, she stretches out her legs like
us guys to. Hilarious.
