How did this for go for 8 Seasons?

I mean my gosh, it was alright but it was just that.. alright. It wasn't spectacular or anything. How did it get such a long run?

Well, it started during television's golden age; a time most when Americans did not own a set and those who did enjoyed the variety. It was also during a time when westerns were the rage: Wild Bill, The Lone Ranger, The Range Rider, Gunsmoke, Gene Autry, Lawman, The Rebel, Hop-a-long Cassidy, The Cisco Kid, and God knows how many others.

It was a much more innocent time. In addition to the above mentioned shows, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Pat Brady were on every Saturday.
I remember watching this show until it was cancelled. "Jingles" would always call out at the beginning "Hey, Wild Bill, wait for me". And the sponsor was Kellogg's Sugar Pop cereal.
What a great time to grow up.

One reason is because as every kid who watched it knows.....

"Oh,the Pops are sweeter, and the taste is new,
They're shot with sugar, through and through!

Kellogg's Sugar Corn Pops (bang,bang)
Sugar Pops are tops!"

They were two likable characters. All the kids loved them. Met them at a local department store, wanamakers in Philly, and there were so many kids there. Remember they were dressed in their outfits and shaking hands with Devine especially cause his hand was so big. Westerns were big then and their show was very popular.
