Hair?

I thought that this was pretty good film. But one detail bothered me. Did POWs receive gel products in German camps during WWII? Most of the British POWs in this film had large amounts of gel in their hair for styling. I find it hard to believe that they actually did. I know that it's a minor detail but details like that can make or break the feel of authenticity. After all, you don't (or shouldn't) want the actors in a war film to look like actors.

Film: 7/10

They all look like actors to me. Bryan Forbes, Peter Finch, David Tomlinson..... all familiar faces!

Its that man again!!

It wouldn't be gel, it would either be bryllcreme or pommade.

A little dab'll do ya. Use more only if you dare. But watch out, the gals will all run to ya; they love to get their fingers in your hair.

Well the RAF were known as The Brylcream Boys.

Yes they recieved parcels through the Red Cross. In the book there were some comments about prisoners who grew beards and others who tried to maintain their pre-captive standards.
