Ann looking pretty severe...

...she was 35 here and past her youthful bloom but the hairstyle and that heavy lipstick didn't do much to soften her features. Would still tap it, though

Well hey, we're all getting older as the years go by. I'm 36 now and I consider myself to be a spring chick.

...and that was a few years later but I agree, she had an awful hairstyle, too pulled back and matronly looking. Maybe they wanted her looking tired out though from being in a dull marriage....

I wonder if the actress was sad and it affected her performance. She had a nice career at Warner's, brother/sister relationship with Humphrey Bogart, he dated a good friend if hers, but I'll bet by 1950 that was all over.

It looked like they went out of their way to make her as unattractive as possible, but those circa-1950 hairdos weren't flattering to anybody.

True.

I think the actress herself was going through a tough time. That said, she may have been too professional to let that show through so her appearance could have been due to her acting skills and that of the makeup artists.
