Decent transfer available?

Does anyone have a decent, quality transfer of this film on DVD?

reply

Considering this film is public domain, there probably isn't a flawless copy... However, there is a version in a box set, called "Mobster Movie Pack". It's put out by Echo Bridge/Platinum. 20 feature films. I got this set for 5 bucks at my local grocery store. This print.... While it's not great... Is certainly watchable.

Very good film.

My, you're nosey, aren't you?

My copy was put out by an outfit called Glass Key. Poor quality.

It was released this year in France in a pristine copy, by Wild Side.

thanks so much. I had no idea this was available on anything other than faded washed out public domain copies. I'd love to get this 'pristine!' copy by the french Wild Side label. trying now how to order it from french Amazon but it's all in french!!

The Italian dvd company Golem Video released a restored version (with english audio) in 2013, but of course it's PAL format. Under the title "Il Mistero Del Marito Scomparso."

Since TCM's Summer Under The Stars 2015 there is a decent copy available thanks to UCLA and BFI. Check TCM, they play this film at least once a year.

The recent Flicker Alley/UCLA BluRay looks pretty good. Considering that it was transferred off of the British dupe negative, and that is the best copy of the film that is still remaining, that is the best that we will ever get. The BluRay/DVD has an excellent commentary track by Film Noir expert Eddie Muller.

Bruce, we just watched it a few weeks ago and the quality is close to pristine! They did an outstanding job.
I remember a much older copy which I had watched from the public library and that was just plain awful.
