Sorry to disagree!

I simply love the black & white cinematography in this film! I think it is very appropriate for this film, given the dark nature of this story. To me, this feels like a film noire set in the west. William H. Daniels did an excellent job as cinematographer, although it does look very much like a John Ford picture - seems like Mann & Daniels carefully studied Stagecoach, My Darling Clementine & Fort Apache before shooting this film.

... precisely. Although I understand the original poster's interest in seeing the locations in color, I think that some of the later Mann/Stewart Westerns—which are in color—are not necessarily as impressive visually as Winchester '73.
