In my opinion the good old Will Geer was hopelessly miscast as Wyatt Earp.
He comes out like a pleasant old folk with his goofy walk and doesn't inspire
the importance and authority such a character should.

To me, Earp's introduction constitutes one of the best moments in the film, or in any Western ... precisely because it confounds the viewer's expectation.
