Smart as Paint?????
Long John Silver constantly compliments Jim by saying "smart as paint"! Does anybody know what he means by that? What's the meaning of that phrase?
shareWhen you paint something, a fence, a house, a wall, ect, it looks smart and as good as new. Hence the expression 'Smart as Paint.' In this context, it's a way of saying that Jim is clever and smart and right on the button and a clever boy.
