Let's talk about the dancing!!

While this may not be the finest MGM Musical Astaire ever starred in, the partnered dancing with Vera-Ellen are some of the greatest routines in musical film! The tap dance to "Where Did You Get That Girl" that opens the movie, with Vera-Ellen matching Astaire step for step, is stunning. The wonderfully goofy "Mr. and Mrs. Hoofer At Home" follows, and then, maybe the most breathtaking of them all, their beautiful, sublime dance to "Thinking of You" later on in the film. In my opinion, Vera-Ellen was one of the best dancing partners for Astaire, and certainly one of the most underrated. Their three duets together (which they matched and arguably even eclipsed two years later together in "The Belle of New York") should rank as some of the greatest partnered dancing film has ever seen.
