Who is John Miles?

Aside from listing a few of his movies, there is no info to be found on him anywhere. Anyone know who he is/was?

reply

I was wondering the same thing. No mention anywhere I can find.

reply

Wasn't he the guy what met Pochahauntus? No, I guess that was Miles Standoffish.

Reference is inscrutable because there is nothing to scrute.

reply

He was an actor.

reply

That's subjective.

To answer that question a very handsome man and talented actor of his time 
( he was only 27 years old when he did this movie   ) .

Watching this movie right now on TCM ( Turner Classic Movies ) .

Thanks hybucket for your subject post  .

Hello, MS! Yes, I'm watching it myself, and I must say I've never heard of or seen this actor before, and I'm a movie buff!! He seems very professional, but I knew the movie was O.K. when I saw Patricia Barry was in it. I also just caught a glimpse again of Jack Lord. Can you believe the way people of 27 acted at that time compared to the way they act now? And I don't mean act in movies, just act. Today people in their twenties still act like they're not dry behind the ears!

Speaking of Patricia Barry, I posted on her IMDB page that I met her at a restaurant in LA several months ago. She was in a wheelchair but was still an extremely lovely and charming lady plus she was dressed beautifully as many women of her era did and her cases still do when they are out in public.

That's wonderful dakotasdad what a nice memory to carry with you always   .
Thanks for sharing this with us here too  .

She is what I would call an intelligent beauty!! She was pretty, but didn't go around ACTING like it. She was in SO MANY of the classic T.V. shows including Columbo, Thriller and others. Fabulous actress that always added so much to whatever she was a part of. Stars of those days always wanted to look good for their "public" unlike the ones of today that go around looking like something the cat dragged in.

So true donamedina it's almost tragic the way it is these days  .
I so do miss the old school ways myself
( so much has changed and not for the better sadly  ) .

I'm also a classic movie buff and even I'm still discovering movies like this which this was my very first time viewing this one myself    .

That is why I wouldn't give up Turner Classic Movies for the world. I just hope if God forbid, Robert Osborne leaves the show, they will be able to find a host that loves the real classics even HALF as much as he does. I saw TWO good movies the other night that I had never seen, both on You Tube. In case you're interested:

Never mind about the other one. It seems to have ALREADY been removed by You Tube!!! I'm glad we watched it the same day I found it!!

I hope Robert Osbourne doesn't leave this channel any time soon it just wouldn't be the same without him   .
I'm glad we also have Ben Mankiewicz as our other host for TCM as well  .

Suits and hats on the men and ladies The lady was even wearing gloves. Love this. Not like today with all the sweats, shorts and flip flops !!!!!!! It's over now and I loved it Next is a George Raft movie !!!!!!

Just finished this film which I'd never heard of before. It was pretty good and I too was delighted with the unscrubbed look of old New York. The old tenement they went into must have been over 100 years old that meant it was built in the 1830s or 1840s. And whatever did happen to John Miles? He was a good looking, affable actor who should have had a great career in the 1950s on TV. But this seems to have been his last film. After this, he disappeared from the screen.

Jack Lord has the only non-speaking role in a four-person scene near the beginning where they are going over the forensics of the bullet.

I agree laxlon I was most impressed too - as you said here " the unscrubbed look of old New York " .
It's amazing how different time changes everything  .
It was also mysterious yet interesting to wonder why actor John Miles made this his last movie and at such a young age as well
( I guess we may never know ? )  .
