Anyone else remember Carol Burnett's parody of Norma?

I recently watched Sunset Blvd. for the first time, and I enjoyed it very much. However, while I was watching it, my mind kept going back to Carol Burnett, when she used to spoof Norma on her show.Carol's portrayal was so spot on, I sometimes got the two confused. Anyone else have the same experience?

I remember those skits when I was little, Harvey Korman played Max, and they were hilarious, like everything else about the CB show.

Yes!!! Love this movie, but I also remember the parody.

One of the best parodies of The Carol Burnett Show. Except for Went with the Wind.

Gloria Swanson got a kick out of it and even appeared on Carol's show! One thing that is off about the parody - Norma Desmond dresses rather chic and expensive with just occasional anachronisms. Carol's spoof uses ridiculous 20's outfits.

I think a lot of people from our generation (I'm a Gen Xer) saw the Carol Burnett parody before seeing the movie later as adults. It was literally only last year that I finally saw Sunset Boulevard some 30 years after seeing the parody as a kid.

I'm a boomer, but I grew up watching Carol Burnett, so I also saw the parody before the film.

I might get some flak for this, but I was watching one of those Carol Burnett specials with one of these skits, and she mentioned Sunset Boulevard was her favorite movie, and that was the whole reason I watched it. What a great film!

But the OP is right about Burnett's portrayal, she was so dead on with those crazy expressions. I couldn't watch the movie without seeing Burnett.

Yes, Carol Burnett's movie spoofs were my favorite part of her show. and the SB send ups were among the best.
