This movie and Caged

Seeing this movie for the first time today, I couldn't help but notice that
it was very similar to the Eleanor Parker film CAGED, with several of the same
plot elements, etc. I thought at first that this might have been a quickie
ripoff of the Powell film, but it was released just one day after that movie.
Were the two studios in competition with each other, racing to be the first to
release a film with the same subject matter? Or was it a ploy by the studio
that made SO YOUNG, SO BAD (some company named "Danziger Productions") to cash
in by putting out a film very similar to one by a major studio in hopes that the
public would be confused and see their film when they meant to go see the other
"women's prison" movie?

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!
