Young Actresses

It's amazing how some of the actresses in this film became successful.

I just watched it, too. I couldn't keep my eyes off of Anne Francis - Henreid didn't have to act at all when he told her she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Rita Moreno also - striking and pitiful as the tragic, mentally disturbed girl.

I agree...Anne Francis and Rita Moreno were radiant! I totally loved how vampy Anne played Loretta. She was very believable as a slutty little delinquent seething with jealousy...so cold she calls her unseen, innocent child "a brat" that she "can't be bothered with" that's as bad as it gets folks! Yet I pitied her on visiting day when she said no one would cross the street to pay her a call. If a few things had been different in this girl's life she might not have ended up in the mess she was in. I wonder how her character ended up as a working mother. Something tells me not so well. Some people are just beyond help.

Dolores needed to be in a different sort of facility for her issues. Her character made me so sad. She had so much talent as a singer and was so shiny and bright to look at, that it made it all the more tragic.

I wish that the young actresses of today would take a cue from the actresses of this era. The actresses of yesteryear look so fresh, dewy, and natural. Not plastic surgeried to the extreme. I hope they go back to that someday.

I think Anne Francis, Rita Moreno and Anne Jackson all stood out, but Rita's character broke my heart. I wrote a post about this. Anne Jackson made me cry when she had her breakdown at the orphanage. Great film overall.

I gotta say Anne Francis is one of the few women in Hollywood who remained beautiful her entire life. You look at her in early parts like this and look at her now, and you can't help but be floored by how staggeringly hot she is regardless of her age.
