Just watched 'Scandal', the last movie from the "Postwar Kurosawa" Boxset that I had yet to watch.
What can I say, it's true that 'Scandal' is better than loads of Hollywod titles that nowadays passes as masterpieces. Yet being fair, 'Scandal' and 'One Wonderful Sunday' are by far the least interesting films directed by Kurosawa that I've ever seen.
While it's always interesting to watch a movie set in postwar Japan, the manipulative tone and the melodramatic (Capra-esque) approach to its subject, diminishes its impact.
IMO the movie is a must see for Kurosawa fan's and recommended to any serious movie buff. As somebody else mentioned: Even the lesser works from masters of cinema such as Kurosawa, will be always more compelling than the best flicks from Michael Bay and the likes.
