The Animals

I was particularly touched at the depiction of the plight of the abandoned animals, waiting patiently on doorsteps, pathetically penned up at embarkation sites, howling for food at time went on. Not to mention the lonely and hungry zoo animals. It was all too too close to what actually happened with Hurricane Katrina. The sign dumped next to where animals were to be left read, "The Wages of Sin Are Death." But did it have to be such a miserable death for the innocent animals too?

Nice sentiment regarding the animals, but what about the poor innocent humans caught up in the displacement, especially the elderly, infirm, and otherwise incapacitated? The look of fear, dread, and anxiety on their faces was quite moving, too.

Why does any caring sentiment toward animals always have to be followed with someone piping up "But what about the PEOPLE?" as if you can't care about both but have to choose one or the other? It's ridiculous.

I always thought the animals would be fine, the people would come back to London and collect them and take them home. Or am I just being naive?
