The Movie Was Just O.K

This movie was too melodramatic and not enough surprise. I could easily guess what was to happen next.
I felt as if I were watching a soap opera, there was too much over acting too syrupy.
Not worth watching again!

agreed... it's just what one should expect from a "B movie programmer".

It's meant to be a 'woman's picture,' so it's supposed to be filled with melodrama. Sure, it was predictable and we all knew who Phyllis was going to end up with at the end, but Ella Raines manages to make it watchable. Really, anything featuring the gorgeous Ella Raines makes my day. She didn't become a superstar or received the best scripts, but she often rose above the little material she was given and made the best of it.

Where did you folks see it? I'd like to, but it doesn't seem to be available.

This was disappointing considering the cast. I didn't like the direction, the dialog was stilted, and the acting should have been better.

Unfortunately, given the cast, all of whom had done better work, this should have been a better movie. Perhaps if Ida Lupino had directed it and rewritten some of the awful dialog, it would have been. So many good movies have been made about an ugly woman transformed by plastic surgery. My favorite is "A Woman's Face" starring Joan Crawford and Conrad Veidt.

I thought the plot had potential which is why I tuned in. But I hated the way Phyllis was beaten down at every turn and didn't show any gumption until she became beautiful. thought the transformation was handled very well. Kudos to the make-up people. Just the nose, the eyebrows and the hairline, it looked like to me. could have been much better. I loved the scene where Paul's little girl tells her she was so much prettier before. and the scene where it looked like she was going to be run over by the truck on the way to the big clinch. Hilarious!
