There is a scene near the end of the movie when they are having a formal dinner. There is a toast...and after the toast, they turn their glasses upside down. I have been wanting to know the answer to this for years. Please help. Thanks.

I would bet that was the last toast they would drink to the US Cavalry

Next time you watch the movie observe closely the looks between John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. It appears that the upside down glasses is probably a secret sign between them as husband and wife.

I think it means that the drinking has come to an end
