What is the "Arsonist" scene all about?

I've never been able to fully understand what's going on in the scene with Victor talking about arson, Sir Walter Raleigh and his black hand etc...

Irish stuff? What's it all about! :)

Did you watch the movie? Do you know the basic conflict between Kirby Yorke & Kathleen?

reply

Yes I've seen the movie. I also understand the conflict between Kirby and his estranged wife.

Good...'What' is the main source of conflict between Kirby & his Wife?

I'm not a very big fan of being spoken to like an idiot.

If my question is far too simple for you to show me even a modicum of respect I'd just ask that you ignore me.

You ask about what The Sgt's "Arsonist" speech means...and I ask you what the source of conflict is between Kirby Yorke & his estranged wife-the answer is there.

OK Nevermind, then. I wanted to be sure you were on the level & just being a 'joker' of some kind;

Kirby Yorke had to torch Kathleen's family plantation in the Shenandhoah Valley under direct orders of Gen. Phil Sheridan; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_Campaigns_of_1864; Quincannon, not being an educated fellow (and probably harboring some guilt over the matter of being the guy who actually burned Kathleen's property) was asking about the meaning of the insult used against him. And that's why he told the Doc he wished he could strike off 'the black hand that did the deed'.
