You Know Capra had lost it...

...when he remade BROADWAY BILL (1934) as RIDING HIGH (1950). Recasting Bing Crosby as DAN BROOKS did not help any for a screenplay that had 'whiskers' in 34 let alone 50. This sad film has entire scenes lifted from the original with many of the supporting cast repeating their roles, unless they were dead.

We rated both the original and the remake IMDB Four****Stars. Frank's touch was long gone and all that was left was CAPRA-CORN.

was it really that bad?

Studman Productions; Yes, it was and I have written more complete reviews on both pictures because I found them so atypical and disappointing. Particularly when you compare them with some of his best, like AMERICAN MADNESS (1932), THE BITTER TEA OF GENERAL YEN (1933) and LOST HORIZON (1937). Even ordinary programmers, action-adventure/romances like FLIGHT (1929) and DIRIGIBLE (1931) are a far more interesting watch and rate them IMDB******Six(6).
