Hi,one can never be too rich or have too many friends. An ok musical but Esther's movies were like Elvis Presley's. They all had variations on the same plot. No one seemed to mind as long as there was pretty color,songs and plenty of nice looking people to fill out screen. The only good thing about this is Howard Keel got to sing in his lively baritone.
It wouldn't be fair to expect much from people who were cast in movies more for their celebrity status or novelty than for their acting ability. The studios were in business to make money. If they found someone with a special or unique talent, like Esther's ability to swim, they would capitalize on it.
Like today's social media stars, having a big fan base and following was all that matters. These people had fans that went to see their movies just to see them. When I watch one of these types of movies I know exactly what to expect and they always deliver.
