a great film but not a war film

This is a great film, well acted and moving.
This is often described as a war film but it is set during peace time, well at least not during World War 2.

What does it matter!!!!

Well it might not matter to you but if I bought the dvd expecting a war drama I might be disappointed that it is a drama about a peacetime disaster.

HMV (a shopping chain for non British readers)put this in the WAR section and I can understand that but the back of the dvd says "while hunting German shipping"the submarine hits a mine.
The film is set during the cold war, indeed the fact that it is a peacetime disaster makes the drama unique.

I find the way IMDB lists the American titles of films very amusing, this film is called MORNING DEPARTURE but the US title seems to be OPERATION DISASTER I don't see that the American title is better.

Yes, not only was it not a war film (it was a military film), but I personally feel that it suffered from what a lot of British military/war films suffered from: too much talk and too little action. I think the topic was not terribly interesting, and the real-life equivalent had already been played out with the rescue of the USS Squalus (later renamed USS Sailfish) in 1939.
