Rather morbid subject (+ with *Spoilers*)
This indeed is a tragic film, but still an enjoyable one to watch for WWII enthusiasts.
But can anybody tell me how the trapped men were left to die?
Did they simply cut off their oxygen?

I don't suppose you'd deliberately cut it off.The oxygen would just run out.
shareI don't think it's a WW2 movie. It seems to be contemporary to when it was filmed, 1950. There were lots of stray mines floating around after the war and the sailors talk to 'number 1' about his escape from a sub during the war. Plus, the men never seem to be on a war footing and there is no mention of enemy ships or aircraft. Mind you, as a British film with a military theme from the 1950s and not actually re-telling WW2, it is a pretty rare beast!
