Most Cruel villain ever

Forget Darth Vader, Agent Smith, Hannibal Lecter... Those people are nothing compared to El Jaibo, who kills an innocent man, robs a blind a man with no legs..., because of him an innocent child goes to the correctional farm, has sex with his mother, then kills him...

This is the reality

reply

Yeah, but still, in the end, he seemed to be regretting the fact that he has never known any form of Love, which also makes him a tragic character. Still, I was glad the rotten little b@st@rd got shot dead ! He bloody deserved it !

Indeed, heard this movie was banned because in that time mexico wanted a good image of the Federal District, ant this movie opened peoples eyes at the reality of that city.

reply

It wasn't banned. It was going to be, but when Buñuel had the greatest critics in Cannes, they actually promote it!! (i mean, is sure money!!!) What is kind of the hand of "goo image keepers" is the intro of the comparison of Mex City with Ny and London. In the first treatment of the script, that wasn't on it, but prodecers ask him to included so it could be filmed. So, in the final tratment, the screenpaly included the intro. But, Buñuel was no fool... In the screenplay presented to the producers, was a happy ending, but in the middle of the shooting, he saw in the news about some kid found dead in the garbage, and that inspired to him to make that tragical ending that we all know.

reply

Sorry to disillusion you but the alternate ending where Pedro kills El Jaibo and returns to school was shot at the request of the Mexican government. After the film won the Palm d'Or he destroyed all of the prints. A copy was later found and is included on the DVD. The alternate ending is laughable.
It was never shown in theaters with the alternate ending because Bunuel hated it and never wanted to shoot it in the first place

Any slum in the world has this kind of reality. Boyz N' the Hood, Ciudade de Deus, Los Olvidados... Unfortunately, poverty is present in all of the world, and it is very sad how oftenly it leads to crime.

On topic: Yes, Jaibo is probably one of the more shocking villains, because he is realistic. Forget any evil motivations for revenge or desire to destroy the world: He is just a poor teenager without moral backing. He does what he wants.

reply

Jaibo perfectly fits the modern definition of a psychopath.

Exactly so! He's the type of person that any of us can pass in the street blithely unaware that in a moment's notice he might try to harm us.
Keep silent unless what you are going to say is more important than silence.

yeah, Roberto Cobo's "El jaibo" is one of the "best" villians I've ever seen. But don't forget "Don Carmelo" (the blind man). Played marvelously by don Miguel Inclán.

There you have another great villian. especially his last lines are woeful: "Así irán cayendo todos. ¡Ojalá los mataran antes de nacer!" (The last line in english: "They all should have been killed before they were born!").

Anyway the true villian in this movie is the poverty and the social margination.

Did Jaibo actually bonk the mother off-camera, or just leer lustfully at her?

reply

Made all the more despicable by his cowardice.
