Prostitution and pedophilia in this film

Interesting film. These children really had a hard life. Two things I wanted to clarify, though. First, was Pedro's mother supposed to be a prostitute? She mentioned she was washing floors but that could have been a cover story. She also said to the police, she didn't even know who Pedro's father was. And the police reacted as if it was understandable.

Second, in the scene where the young girl sat on the blind man's lap, the man acted kind of strange. He was going to say he wanted something from the girl but was interrupted. Was the blind man supposed to be a pedophile? Perhaps not a full-time pedophile, but behaving like one in this situation. Also, there was a scene with Pedro standing in front of a shop window and some stranger talking to him about something - was that also supposed to be a hint towards child-prostitution and pedophilia?

The scene with Pedro and the man by the window was so disturbing. I think it was a hint towards child-prostitution but I don't remember if they show Pedro with the money later. Something did happen though.

I didn't think the mom was a prostitute till reading this, when the children ask her about the meat she came home with. Then her going to bed with El Jaibo so easily? Makes me wonder.

The scene with the blind man was so creepy! This movie left me so drained after watching.
