other voices - alternatives [spoiler alert]

Gene Tierney goes up to Hugh Marlowe's apt. It is obviously stated that Marlowe has a music box loaded with cash; I think they were going to use that as a place where harry could have gotten the dough he needed for his ever more complicated scheme; this was not developed but would have given Dassin an alternative to Harry ripping off his girlfriend. Further notice the continuing use of 'overheard' conversations for Harry to get his way. First, at the club where he 'finds' a wallet and tells a bunch of lies to get those tourists to go to the other nightclub. Second when he starts arguing with the ticket seller at the first wrestling match so that gregarious 'overhears' him, thinking Harry is OK. Third, Harry in the night club when he starts mouthing off so that the other wrestler can hear the boast of gregarious or whatever it was, thus enraging him to return to Harry's gym. Last, at the waterfront, when Harry tries to get Gene Tierney to get the reward, he starts shouting at Kristo that she was a rat, traitor, Judas etc., turning him in and so forth. This is a highly effective technique and it always gave Harry credibility because the other guy 'overhears' the conversation instead of being told directly.

I like your deep hypothesis. Similar to talking in the "third Person" to manipulate in ones favor.
