Andrew Ray

I saw this film on Channel 4 (in England)earlier this week after many years and it has lost none of its charm. AlecGuinness showed what a great actor he was and Andrew Ray in his first acting role (!) was outstanding. If you enjoyed Andrew's performance in this he is just as good in his next film--The Yellow Balloon 1952-53-an excellent thriller also starring William Sylvester who later wasin 2001-A Space Odyssey.

I happened to see this on Flim 4 a few days later and was very impressed with the film.
Well worth a watch and it wasn't til I came to IMDB that I found out it was Sir Alex. if you go to Disraelis Wiki page you see just how close they got Sir Alex to look like him in the film.

A forgotten gem

Couldn't agree more. Disraeli's/Sir Alex's speech in the House of Commons could equally be spoken today. An absolutely charming film. Finlay Currie was very amusing too.

That speech had me in tears. I wonder if it was quoted word for word? I imagine they had to. Made me realize what a specially gifted politician Mr. Disraeli was.
