Loved Mrs. Miniver, but wasn't too crazy about this...

I didn't really find it interesting and it just seemed to be a mish-mosh of storylines thrown together. I realize how popular the original movie was, but this just seems to have been a random movie which could have been made with any family, and nothing to do with the original. I thought it also moved too slowly and was a little disappointed.

"I hope she didn't take my attempt to destroy her too seriously."

Never saw the other Miniver films but saw this one today and kinda liked it. Very sad:(

Agree with the OP totally!

I ended up finding it touching at the end, when it focused on Mr. and Mrs. -- the kids' storylines didn't grab me. But I question the fundamental concept of bringing Mrs. Miniver back only to kill her off (this isn't a spoiler -- you learn it early on). The first movie felt iconic -- telling the story of war-torn families throughout England. This one was just a glossy, well-made soap opera about a single family. Still, Garson was beautiful.

I enjoyed the portrayal of the loutish general, particularly the frisson between Garson and him. I enjoyed how cheesy it was that he seemed to be considering making a pass at his mother's lover, and how Garson sensed this as well.

But yes, the main value of the story was the story line involving Mr. and Mrs. Some nice stuff about the Yanks and all that, too.
