The Desoto Taxi Cab

One thing i noticed when i watched this movie is when they get into the Taxi at the train station and they go to the hotel that car is seen in a close up when they stick their heads out of the top and on the driver's side front fender you can see DeSoto on the car. That Desoto car they rode in has to be either a 1949 or earlier model because I have a 1950 and a 1954 Desoto car. I can say that it is a shock how this is the only movie I have seen ever having the Desoto cars in it. Those of you who have never heard of that line of cars need to know that the Desoto cars were Crysler's version of Cadillac and were built from 1929 to 1961. The reason they were discontinued is after Walter Crysler died the people who took over his automobile company started building the Desotos and Plymouths the same instead of keeping the Desotos ahead with certian luxury items like how General Motors did the Cadillacs VS. the Chevrolets and Oldsmobiles. So you see Right there is why that line of cars got shut down. SO this is a great thing that this Ma and Pa Kettle movie has the scene showing such a rare to find line of cars.

Even though it's been over 8 years since you posted this, I had to reply.

The taxicab in question appears to be a 1946-48 Desoto model S-11 "Skyview".

Here are some sites I think you might enjoy on this particular automobile:

The last link also shows a vintage Checker cab, too. The "Skyview" might have the sign on the top, but the roof window isn't there. Just thought you'd like the color photos and what the interior of the cab was like.

These cabs have appeared in a lot of films - Harvey, D.O.A., and All About Eve for instance.

If you like cars in movies as you appear to do, I just want to make sure you are aware of the Internet Movie Cars Database site - http://imcdb.org

FWIW, there's also similar sites for airplanes - http://impdb.org/ and guns http://www.imfdb.org/ in films.
