Note on flop house wall

I noticed the note too. I thought that it was a nudge to write a letter home, a sort of gentle reminder of life's niceties, to be observed even in a nasty place like a flophouse.

Good eye. I have seen signs like this in other movies of the period posted in simular places, but cannot think of one off the top of my head except possibly "Sullivan's Travels". I think they usually say "Have you written your mother today"
