Casting for the Movie

Does anyone think the movie would have been weakened if they had brought in another actor to play Robinson? Nothing against the man, I just don't think he was a very great actor, even literally playing himself. And what was the deal with that little guy they brought in every few scenes who couldn't hit the ball if his life depended on it? Was that kind of schtick considered hilarious in 1950?

I thought he did great. And I can't believe I am answering a 1 1/2 year old post.

RAAAMOOOOOONE! GET IN HERE AND CLEAN UP THIS MISCARRIAGE!

I think it would be difficult to weaken this movie. I enjoyed it as a time capsule, but it's a bad movie.

It's absolutely awful, one of the worst movies I've ever seen - Robinson is just TERRIBLE in it.

I am also amazed that the movie was made in 1950, I would have thought it was made long after his playing days because he looked so fat and out of shape in it. And what a terrible terrible actor!

This one is definitely a miss!

So don't WATCH it. Have Mommy put in a Barney tape for you, and then grow UP.

What is memorable about it are Minor Watson's speeches, as Branch Rickey, to Jackie about what he must both face and tolerate if he wants to play with the Dodgers. Those speeches and his scolding of white Dodgers who think they are "more American" than Jackie make Watson the best reason to see the movie. May some of us please not forget him as plaudits start coming in for Harrison Ford.
