Was something going on between Laurel and the masseuse?

Their was a bit of dialogue between Laurel and the masseuse (who seemed pretty butch) during the rubdown that led me to believe there was more to it than just getting the kinks out. Something about Laurel running back to the masseuse when things inevitably go bad with Dix (no pun intended, by me anyway). Thought it was kinda risque for 1950.

Sorry I missed another post on this. I swear I looked for one before posting this and was surprised I didn't see one.

L O L ! ! I just saw this movie and thought the same thing ! As butch as she looks, she's talking oh-so-sexy to Laurel and ravaging her body with her eyes ! I thought maybe I was imagining this, but after reading your post, I know I am seeing it like it is ! Thanks for the confirmation, Corriganville !

I don't think so. Laurel was in love with Dix and, according to Laurel, the masseuse was married.

Nope. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

IMHO I would say so. The way she said you would be coming back to me after she left Dix, sure seemed that way to me! Being married or having bfs doesn't mean sh$t...

"Being married or having bfs doesn't mean sh$t..."

Well, actually it usually does. It doesn't necessarily always mean everything, but it certainly means more than sh$t.

Oh, yes. In 1950 they couldn't spell it out, but they got through to me just fine. Nicholas Ray wouldn't have shied from at least hinting at such things. I took it as Masseuse Martha wanting to "turn out" Laurel and maybe break her in right.

The actress playing Martha was Ruth Gillette. With the help of Gloria Grahame's reactions, she came across extra tough! I was hoping for a fight scene between Dix and her. That would have been quite the metaphor! Nicholas Ray could've made it great!

Maybe, in this age of "women good, men bad," someone will remake this and bring out that angle. I hope so!

I'm not certain that Laurel was into Martha, but Martha was certainly into Laurel.
