Which Fritz Lang Film Should I Watch Next

I've seen "Scarlet Street," "Woman in the Window," and this one "House by the River."

Imo, Scarlet Street is an all time classic. I would rate it in my own top 10, maybe even top 5. I also very much liked Woman in the Window.

Interested in Fritz Lang movies, I watched House by the River. It was ok, not great but I watched it straight though.

Does he have any other films similar to Scarlet Street?

If you haven't seen "Clash By Night" (1952) by now, make it your next one. Trouble is, it's so good in all departments, especially script and acting, it might spoil the other Fritz Langs for you. My early favorites are "You Only Live Once" (1937) and "Man Hunt" (1941). You might give "Ministry of Fear" (1944) a try, and "Rancho Notorious" (1952) is a pretty kooky western with great color. Two starring Dana Andrews in the late fifties, "While the City Sleeps" and "Beyond Reasonable Doubt" are in quite a relaxed pace but have good plot twists if that's what you're into. And some real Lang fans swear by "Moontide" (1955).

deforest-1, Thanks for the advice. Actually, I've seen several that you mentioned since my original post. I've seen "Clash by Night," "Man Hunt," and "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt." To tell you the truth, I didn't like BARD that much. I love Joan Fontaine, but this was a Dana Andrews film. Although I like good plot twists, I thought the last plot twist was one too many. He actually was the murderer that he was pretending to be.

as far as his American work, try Fury with Spencer Tracy
his German films are some of the best. Try M,Metropolis or my personal favorite of his Destiny.

Oh my, where do I start...His classis SILENTS! My favorites are Dr Mabuse: The Gambler - a MUST SEE!, The Testament of Dr Mabuse, The Thousand Eyes of Dr Mabuse (not a silent film, made in 1960, and added here to complete the Dr Mabuse trilogy), Metropolis - a MUST SEE, Spies (credited as a writer but a great film). I personally could not get through Nibelungen, but the film, often shown in two separate parts, is most definitely considered one of Lang's best. I know I am forgetting one or two that I have seen...

Sadly, I haven't had the opportunity of watching any other Fritz Lang silent films that I consider brilliant. I do think that when he came to the states he took awhile to find his way. Then he was off and running again. Do try to see his silent films. Without them, you really don't know the virtuosity and greatness of the man, and are missing out on some great entertainment as well. I hope I have helped as that was my intention.

After watching this, the next Fritz Lang movie I saw was 'Human Desire' (1954). I enjoyed it especially Gloria Grahame as the femme fatale.
