'Hungry'

I only caught the last 30 minutes of this movie.
The kid outside the Old Roman's office window when Dink is taking the test is called Hungry (I think). I didn't see anyone listed in the credits by that nickname. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I was looking at the credits also and saw that Robert Wagner was in this movie, also Elinor Donohue. Of course, I recognized Daryl Hickman and Scotty Beckett. Also saw in the credits that Dwayne Hickman was in this. I didn't actually pick him out or either Donohue or Wagner !!!! That hungry kid looked familiar also. He sure ate a lot of pancakes. Cute movie !!

I realize it has been a long while since you posted your questions but I have just seen the movie today.

Robert Wagner is in the classroom scene when the teacher played by Leo G. Carroll goes around in turn to every student in the class starting with the "A's". Robert Wager was the first student as his character was named Adams. He does not have any lines - he just makes a real goofy face because he is unprepared to answer the teacher's question. The camera is on him for maybe 12 frames.

Elinor Donahue was the first of the three girls that the summer vacation boys played the prank. The one where when all the boys came calling on the same girl on the same afternoon and made the same conversation.

The hungry kid was in The Yearling (1946) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039111/, though he did not play the kid lead, the character Jody - that was Claude Jarman Jr. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0418741/. Hungry kid played Fodderwing.

Hope this helps.

Dwayne Hickman played one of the boys who helped Dink pull pranks on girls during summer vacation. He has a few lines in the scene with Dean Stockwell and Elinor Donahue.

The actor's name was Donn Gift and his charactor's name was Big Man Smead then changed to Hungry Smead after he ate the pancakes. He also played Fodderwing in The Yearling.

Hes, "Hungry" was the nickname given to this slight, rather frail kid whose nickname had been something he didn't care for (like "The Old Man" or something reflective of his demeanor/high intelligence level). He just wanted to be "one of the guys" but was hampered.

One day, he was approached by Dink, the main character, to help him out with his Latin. An offer was made to buy him something (a soda, I think) to which he replied he'd already had 5 and would enjoy another. Dink was amazed that this little guy could hold so much and he immediately had an idea. A place called Conover's had an offer that if anyone could eat 36 pancakes, they'd serve free pancakes to the entire school that same day. The kid agreed if they'd give him a new nickname. He put away a whopping 49 pancakes, never got sick, and the whole school ate for free. From then on, he was dubbed "Hungry".

Saw this recently on TCM.
