Not the Feel Good Movie of the Century

This was a good movie. I particularly appreciated it having been in the Marines. I was struck by how similar Richard Widmark's character was to Tom Hank's character in Saving Private Ryan. He was an officer who was psycholgically afflicted by the war and was a former teacher. Also similar is the fact that a lot of the main characters were killed. I really enjoyed it and can appreciate that while it celebrated our heroes, it hardly celebrated war.
