Stunts at the carnaval

Were those shooting stunts real at the carnaval?

They looked very convincing. Maybe there was a shooter behind Cummins shooting the ballons and the chalk ....possible?

probably someone popping the balloons with a needle behind the wall..

Everything had to be either rigged from the back or was a trick prop--if someone missed, they'd had have had to recast the picture! (And assuming that even if someone was a good enough shot to hit a matchhead with a bullet from across the stage, the end of the match wouldn't ignite; it'd simply be blown off.)

I was surprised that Annie let a volunteer from the audience shoot the matches on her head-dress. He might have beaten her at the first shooting challenge, but he might still miss and shoot her.

That wasn't realistic - guy being an expert with a gun he'd never shot before! But who cares, it's a great movie.

The movie was not real but I have seen people light matches before.

Bob Munden who recentlu passed away was one of the greatest trick shootist that ever lived

Go to utube and watch him do some amazing shooting

Just because it can be done, you'd have to be a real dope to volunteer to have someone (especially someone you don't even know) shoot at matches on a headdress on your head.

You are forgetting when the movie was filmed. Back then people did a lot of stujpid and reckless things.

reply

There's no chance they were real, but whoever was working the effects and timing the squibs was doing a very good job, unlike so many current films where a shot's ruined by bad timing, or blanks that puke out a shower of burnt wadding and demonstrate it's fake.

What I had in mind was boxing the compass.

I can think of ways how most could be done except for ones where something is in her mouth and explodes. Maybe the woman was a stunt woman herself. Notice how it cuts to close up. Maybe there was something she bit on herself to make the little explosion, or maybe it really was shot off, but from extremely close just off camera?
