Question about Annie's entrance at the carnival

When we first meet Annie Starr ahe's coming on stage, firing her pistols in the air. Then she does a brief scan of the audience until her eyes alight on Barton, whom she apparently fancies. Then she points her pistol at him and shoots -- a blank, of course. Maybe it was okay to do that back then (or maybe it was "okay" just for the movie), but could you legally get away with that today? I've heard where even blanks can shoot out some wadding that can cause serious harm. The fate of actor Jon-Erik Hexum comes to mind.

I don't think any carnival today would be allowed to have even blanks being fired, let alone all the other live rounds they used in that shooting act. Just listen to the ricochets off those metal plate targets!

I also noticed that her ass was sort of on display for the men while she was doing the stunt shooting.

I think her shooting a blank at Barton was a way to impress him, since he was so dumbfounded when she went on stage.

It also implies how deadly she will be for him, a subtle foreshadowing.
