John Dall's character is an idiot!

At least I can understand Laurie girl! Not so Bart. Wimpy, dumb, stupid, silly, wanting to be "decent" but lack the guts. Any wonder how Laurie came to love this idiot I can't answer that. Wish she had shot him! But the rest a classic! And love that Peggy's Laurie!

That's typical of the stories where some femme fatale gets such a man in her clutches. See also "Double Indemnity" for another example of such a stupid guy.

By the way, John Dahl was an amazing actor. Besides this movie, he was super in "Rope" and a couple of other flicks. Extremely incredible actor who should have had a better career!

Yup, I recommend "Double Indemnity" (1940s), "Pushover" (1954), "Quicksand" (1950), "The Great Flamarion" (1940s), and "Out of the Past" (1940s) if you're interested in movies where a nasty female gets some unsuspecting male to do something for her which will get him into trouble. I think the 40s movie "Criss Cross" is one such movie as well, but I don't remember it well enough to know for sure.

Also "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946)...I didn't like this version, but it certainly fits into this category. A better version of this story is the 1943 Italian movie "Ossessione".

Look up "1940s film noir" and you'll probably find more complete lists online on various sites.

Enjoy!

Who is John Dahl?

Oh, I see ... you mean John Dall.

Thanks for pointing out my misspelling. I just corrected it.

I love how the clown tries to warn Bart about her "not making a happy home." he then tells Bart: "It's just that some guys are born smart about women and some guys are born dumb."

Ain't it the truth!

+1
I used to know someone who said "women are evil, men are stupid." I always think of that when I watch Gun Crazy.

He was really clueless! He didn't want to shot anyone (understandable) & he hated stealing but he always went along with her schemes. He was one whipped dude!

He was really a decent guy,who was hooked on this hot babe, who took it to the limit.I liked him in this, and loved a peek at 1949 LA.I am assuming it was filmed in 49 and released in 1950.

Your friend shouldn't have dated someone who was 'gun crazy'. Easy Peasy ;)

The clown was great.

I saw this the other day and if I was Bart I would have left the first night I had sex with her.

He was a bit too much of a Boy Scout tbh, with his outlook, demeanour and style, maybe a different actor would have given an edgier performance, he just comes across as too nice.
