I'd only change one thing (spoiler)

After Bart shoots Laurie to keep her from killing Dave and Clyde I would have had Bart put the gun to his head and kill himself. He was madly in love with Laurie right up to the end so having to kill her would have destroyed him and he wouldn't have wanted to go on living. Still it was a great movie and I watch it each time I find it on.

Another thing is that Packett identifies them but he was in on the robbery with Laurie when she killed a man. Why didn't he get arrested?

reply

Good point and I wondered how he knew it was Bart and Laurie who were committing the new robberies? I guess when it came to the man in Saint Louis that he left himself out of his version. Still, I could watch that movie over and over again and really should get myself a copy.

reply

Pretty sure there is no way they could have shown that in 1950

Oxbow Incident(1943), Hatter's Castle (1942), 3 Godfathers (1948), Vertigo (1958) all had suicides. Probably we would have a scene of him looking at the pistol, then a cutaway and a gunshot.

reply

I would have had Bart put the gun to his head and kill himself.

Again, I seriously doubt they could show this in 1950. They couldn't even say "helluva" in 1950. NONE of the movies you mentioned had the person put a gun to their own head, and neither did your scenario.

reply

The Asphalt Jungle (1950) had a character shoot himself offscreen.

reply

Again, we do not see him put a gun to his head.

reply

exactly.

reply

I am glad he shot that crazy b**tch. His shooting himself would have been bad. He had a change of mind and killed her precisely because he is supposed to have seen that there are things more valuable than love.

reply

He loved his friends. Love is not always about someone you can make love with.
