it is assuming legendary status in my mind

Good question. I have also emailed TCM to reshow this repeatedly and I still await another showing. This is an excellent movie and one of Stanwyck's best performances. I also wish it was on DVD.

I was able to get the DVD from this site http://www.cinemacom.com/classic-movie-dvds.html

I also want to see The Furies. The first clips I saw on this film were in the Martin Scorsese documentary. It looks great.

Considering Anthony Mann's current popualrity,I am amazed this film is not available on any format.
Great Western, with a wonderful Franz Waxman score.

I was going to post that same thing but sienel, you've beaten me to it.
I'd never even heard of this film and I don't know how it escaped me...can someone give me the nutshell reason why this film is deemed worthy of the Criterion treatment? I'm very anxious to see it now.
