Set for DVD release in February 2008 by Criterion!

The Criterion Collection's December 2007 email newsletter strongly hints that they will be releasing The Furies in 2008, most likely February or March.

I saw that too and almost died of excitement! Finally, Mann just might be getting some recognition! Could Man of the West follow? Oh Lord let's hope...

Sorry to spoil your excitement, but it won't be released until later in the year. It's not listed in Criterion's releases for Feb. and March.

You break her heart and I'll break your neck.

Before you break anyone's neck, I would like to say that The Furies has been confirmed for a June release. No lies. I just found out today on Criterion's website.

Yes, DVDBeaver.com confirms the June release of Furies. The unwittingly campy Big Valley tv series now seems in retrospect seems like a total reaction-formation against Stanwycks's role in The Furies.

I wish Criterion would do El Cid. Their laserdisc version has far better colors than the faded out recent Miriam Collection edition.

We can hope for some more Man(n) of the West(ern)s from Criterion, some of which are only on region two and others only in pan and scan DVD or video Cimarron, The Far Country, etc) from Criterion.

If "The Furies" does well for Criterion, I hope they soon after release "Devil's Doorway," "The Tall Target," and/or "The Black Book." If a box set is in the works, new prints of "Raw Deal" and "T-Men" would be welcome news.

Now the only thing to ponder is whether the perenial underachievers (aka MGM) can release a good edition of "Man of the West."
