YOU POOR MAN!

The future Pope John XXIII (at the time he was Cardinal Roncalli) watched this in the screening room sitting next to the director Rossellini. The future pope was so moved at moments by the film he kept patting Rossellini on the arm and saying 'You poor man! You poor man!' Because the director was not a believer but could make such a simple, beautiful movie.
