As when they didn't respect some home-owners request to piss off, and kept on coming, and knocking on his door. He (Francesco) was a bit over-demanding.

I agree it seemed a little out of character. But from the mischievous look on his face, he was obviously trying to goad the homeowner into giving them a beating so that he could make his point to the other brother about suffering for Christ being "the greatest happiness". Still seemed a little rude.
