that's all, it's just so boring.

No, it's not. Get a life.

Could not disagree more with bapisdifhafhj.

This is one of Spencer Tracy's best films IMO. Very witty and so true. This is how weddings were in the 50s and 60s.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, if you want 'boring', just watch the remake with Steve Martin. I didnt raise a smile.

Could you be a bit more specific on what you found boring?
I realize that everyone has differing tastes in films. My problem is that since you brought it up, you never elaborated. Were you simply trying to get a discussion going when you started this thread? If so, I`ll begin....
I found this to be a charming film. Spencer Tracy is so sweet and funny. Joan Bennet is beautiful, and is believeable as his wife.... As for Elizabeth Taylor, she is not only a beautiful bride, but very funny .
I have no arguement with you. I would just like to know what your thoughts were when you said this is boring.

reply

You are correct.

This is a very dull and slow-paced film; even for the time period.

It's not really funny. And it's not really touching.

I'm an old-film buff but I find this movie over-rated for what it is...

Tracey is great in his part and the young Taylor is stunning and simply beautiful, but there is simply no “there” there in “Father of the Bride”.

Worth a single viewing but that’s about it I'm afraid.

One man's boring is another woman's subtle, I'm afraid.

reply

I agree, except I'd go further and say that Tracy stunk up the place, and it's not worth even a single viewing.

reply

I agree. Father of the bride (1950) is not as good as it is cracked up to be. The story is very flat and uninteresting. It's only 94 minutes long, but it seems more like 150. The dull script and the black and white photography made me feel as if I were watching a 1950's TV sitcom.

I agree: nothing relevant ever happens. Someone says it's a satirical movie about the silliness of american weddings, but as it finally ends like a Disney movie, it's hardly so.
The only positive thing about this movie is Tracy. He's the only real character: all other people are just paper thin.
But I guess that for those still loving this wedding thing this must be a great movie.
