Laughed myself silly

I have to admit, I laughed to tears watching Spencer Tracy trying on his old cutaway formal wear. Never would have thought a 63-year-old movie could be so entertaining. Such a fine piece of physical comedy in that scene. But perhaps I was affected by being myself too much in his situation these days.

There's nothing wrong with 63 year old movies! Or older. The classic era of Hollywood film making gave us many classics.

Among their greatest talents was Spencer Tracy. Glad to hear he made you laugh so much and I agree - he's very funny in this. There are some very clever and dry pieces of dialogue. Spencer Tracy's narration is also full of dry lines that make me chuckle. The physical comedy is really first rate and well performed. Not all physical comedy works, but this certainly did.

I'd like to recommend you check out some of the Katharine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy films - in particular Woman Of The Year, Adam's Rib, Pat & Mike. There's some superb comedy in all of those.

This film is a great blend of physical comedy and witty dialogue. I love the scene where the parents are in bed and he wakes her up turning the light on, and telling her all his crazy fears. Just great.

To me, while Cary Grant was a perfect model for the ladies' man, Gable was the perfect model for a man's man, Spencer was a perfect model for a husband and father. Think of Spence in Captain's Courageous and then, Spencer in Adam's Rib. I mean, I think every man should aspire to be a husband and father like him. And every woman should want that for a husband and father of her kids.

The suit scene was the funniest part of the film.

Its that man again!!

I came here to post about that same scene, then I saw your thread. Laughed out loud when Stanley tried on his old suit. Once you're past 40, you can definitely relate! Also, when he splits the back out of the suit, so funny! 

There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?
