Kay's Trousseau

When Stanley rattles off the list of items in Kay's trousseau, some of the items are unfamiliar to me. Perhaps some of you fashionistas can help:

What is/are: snuggeries (a British bad word?), spectator sport suit, afternoon dress, hostess dress, plaza suit and country suit.

Holy cow, isn't a suit just a suit? Especially for a 50s housewife without a job. Furs? Plural? The thing that got me was "a dozen slips". A dozen! Seems like nobody wears slips at all anymore....except as a dress! 😀
