Wow!

I've had the DVD for a few months now and just realized there is commentary from the director! How cool! Vincent Sherman is still sharp as can be and remembers this film fondly!

I'm looking forward to it. Mr.Sherman passed away this past summer. Too bad.

It's a dirty job,but I pay clean money for it.

"Fondly" is one way of putting it. Sherman is one of those kiss-and-tell coots, who like to reminisce at the retirement home of all the broads they banged. Crawford was one, and he lets us know all about it (he was married, but his wife didn't give him a lot of hassle). I guess all this is interesting to know, but it's weird watching Sherman talk like this on camera. I expect white haired gentlemen to be make at least a pretense of being gentlemen.

Yeah, he's shown up in a few DVD extra interviews boasting of his conquests. It's more than a little unsavory.

Everytime I see him in anything I know "yup, he slept with this one too" ( or claims he did ). I like many of the films he directed, and don't like speaking ill of the dead, but he did not mind sharing his "recollections" of the ladies he spent time with. I too find it more than a little unsavory. I'm sure he had many great tales to tell about his films but why couldn't he be a gentleman and leave the liaisons in the past, as memories, where they belong.

reply

Yep, Sherman's always been like that. But he usually seems to be telling the truth, albeit somewhat distatefully.

But then Joe Mankiewicz was horrified when Joan Crawford outed their affair, too.
