Bad back?

I've heard Gary Cooper's daughter on TCM mention that he had back problems. He is visibly uncomfortable bending over to put his spurs on at one point, and often rode tilted to the side in the saddle. What a trouper to work with pain, and may explain why another poster disliked his performance.
