Bogart as a test pilot???

John Wayne as Genghis Kahn?
Chuck Conners as Geronimo?
John Travolta as an Army general?

Bogart as a gangster?
Bogart as a detective?
Bogart as a night club owner?
Bogart as a US Navy officer? Multiple times.
Bogart as a US army soldier? Multiple times.
Bogart as an attorney?
Bogart as an artist?
Bogart as a carnival owner?
Bogart as a radio executive? Multiple times.
Bogart as a stable boy?
Bogart as an effeminate movie director?

Notice how the list goes from the obvious to the absurd. The list goes on and on. I'm not sure why everyone thinks he's so one-dimensional. And most of the ones I mentioned came in the middle of his career, not at the beginning when he had to take any role nor at the end when he could pick any role he chose.

Well put.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...

Your first two examples involve a white actor in brownface. Of course that's screwed up. Don't see how it equates to Bogart playing a test pilot, though.

As pointed out in the list above, Bogart was a people-oriented actor. He was more natural with a cigarette in his mouth and a drink in his hand. He did not fit being a technologist, analyst, scientist, engineer, test pilot, or any role that required intensive use of the brain's processing power.
