Which is better: The Breaking Point or Port Of New York?

The highlight of the "B" thriller, Port Of New York, with Scott Brady, Richard Rober, and Yul Brynner is the truly incredible 1940s location footage of New York's waterfront.

The Breaking Point is arguably the finest film version of Hemingway's novel To Have and Have Not. The story is shifted from Cuba to California. And of course, instead of Bogey and Bacall, we have John Garfield and Patricia Neal

Both give the flavor of the coast, be it East or West.
So which is the better of the two?

I killed him for money and for a woman. I didn't get the money... and I didn't get the woman.

i saw them both at the LA Film Noir Festival last night, the Breaking Point was easily the better of the two. in fact, it's perhaps the best movie i'd ever seen but never heard of.

Same here - "Breaking Point" took the top of my head off. The ending really wrecked me. In a good way, of course.

I never thought Curtiz was capable of something like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of "Casablanca", the Errol Flynn stuff, and all that, but "Breaking Point" is in a whole different league. It's the only one of his films I've seen that doesn't scream HOLLYWOOD STUDIO PICTURE. This felt more like something John Huston would've done at his peak. Amazing piece of work!

Don't you just LOVE new discoveries like this?

You folks are so lucky to have seen it, and on the big screen, too! Who hosted, Eddie Muller? Was there any talk of releasing it on DVD? Enquiring minds MUST know!

I've been asking around everyone I know who might have a clue about a DVD release of "Breaking Point" but apparently most of the people who make these decisions haven't heard of it.

Warners has been putting out some made to order DVD's from the archives. Not this. Yet! Ahh.
