Is there another film with this plot?

I am about half way through watching this classic western and the plot seems familiar. Has this be remade under a different name? It certainly isn't a typical western plot.

This is an old post, but for others in Carolina and elsewhere who may be curious....

The basic premise of Branded, con artists passing off a fellow criminal as the long-lost son of a weathy family, was used again a year later in Two Of A Kind (1951), staring two of my favorite actors Edmond O'Brien and Liz Scott. Two Of A Kind has a modern (1951) rather than and Old West setting and differs in other respects, but the story seems to sprout from the same root.

Not westerns, but "The Great Impersonation" has a good guy who has wasted his life, discovering an evil, enemy agent is his double.

"The Prisoner Of Zenda"; a vacationing Englishman is persuaded to pose as an heir to a throne due to his uncanny resemblance.

O'Henry's short Story "A Double Dyed Deceiver" used a similar plot. It has been made into a movie a number of times -- In 1920 with Jack Pickford; in 1930 with Gary Cooper in a film called the Texan, and in 1939 in a movie called The Llano Kid with Tito Guizar. The basic plot was also used in an episode of the 1950's series The Millionaire.

The basic plot of a bad guy assuming the identity of a good guy and then accidentally becoming a good guy has been done before and since.
A few years later, Audie Murphy starred in "Ride A Crooked Trail" where Murphy played an outlaw being pursued by a marshal who accidentally falls off a cliff. He assumes the identity of the marshal and takes up the duties of a lawman in a new town.

William Powell in "I Love You Again" is a businessman who recovers from amnesia and discovers he's a conman. At first deciding to take advantage of his respected position in town, winds up falling in love with his wife and turns into a good guy even after his former partners in crime show up.
